Skirting for Wood Flooring
Skirting is the wooden trim that fits around the bottom of a room to hide the gap between the wall and the edge of the floor. It is also called scotia, baseboard or quarter round. Skirting is not only decorative, but also functional. Its purpose is to create a neat finish between wall and floor at the bottom of your stairs, around door frames and at any point where your wood floor meets a wall.

Why Oak Skirting?
Here are 5 reasons to use real oak skirting for your wooden flooring:
- It looks great!
Isn’t that obvious? Oak is beautiful and will enhance the look of your new floor. Plastic and MDF just don’t have the same quality look and feel as natural wood.
- It’s more durable
You’re using real wood flooring because you want something that will last, right? Well why use a plastic skirt when you can get a natural wood one instead? Oak skirting will last longer than plastic and is easy to repair if it gets damaged, unlike MDF which would need to be replaced completely.
- It’s better value for money
Because it lasts longer, real oak skirting boards are definitely worth the extra money compared with cheaper alternatives made from plastic or MDF.
- You can stain or paint it any colour
If you want a colour other than natural oak, go for it! Real oak skirting boards can be painted or stained to suit your decor. You can get them sanded and ready for finishing before they arrive at your home too so no need to worry about the mess of doing it yourself.
- It will last longer
Oak is a hardwood and is more resistant to wear and tear than softer wood such as pine, so it will last through years of use without losing its appearance. Plastic and MDF products won’t be able to compete with a quality oak skirting board.
